I'm hoping that your Holidays and 2023 have been good to you and wishing everyone a totally wonderful 2024.
The good news for me is that I'm still alive and kicking and testing negative for cancer.
I've been laying low for several months, just trying to relax as much as possible. I've had my Covid, Flu, Tetanus and Shingles vaccinations, so I'm all set for the Winter bugs that are floating around.
My Oncologist has me going through scans, imaging and testing on a frequent basis. It's a real pain, but my Oncologist is always right on top of things and doing what is needed to keep me ticking.
My Oncologist is a great guy! Nothing gets by him and I never have to mention anything twice. I tell him what's up and he immediately takes care of things. I was having a terrible time getting one of my prescriptions filled on time month after month. I mentioned it to him and by the time I got home, the pharmacy had called to tell me it was ready for pick-up.
We're still missing our Otis since his Easter passing. When Memorial Day came around, our sweet little fainting goat Butkus passed away too.
It's been a rough year for our beloved critters.
I went through several months of Physical Therapy for my Vertigo. It helped quite a bit, but I still get dizzy and off balance.
I've been going to the Ophthalmologist for some ongoing eye problems. Seems I have the onset of Glaucoma and an ever increasing case of Macular Degeneration. My eyes hurt, they are always itchy and constantly dripping. When I wake up in the mornings, my eyelashes are "glued" together. John says my eyes look like I was pepper sprayed in the face.
My teeth have proven to be a real nightmare.
The day before my birthday in June, I had all of my teeth pulled in the hopes that it would be a relatively quick procedure to replace them with dentures...
Fat Chance.
John had bought some Filet Mignon for my birthday dinner, I couldn't eat it. John ate the steaks, I had mashed potatoes.
I've been to 5 different dentists and oral surgeons and nobody wants to take on the needed procedure of an ALVEOLOPLASTY. This procedure is to smooth out the ridges on my gums so the dentures have somewhere to rest.
The main problem is my left lower jaw where my molars used to be. One of my scans showed an anomaly that needed testing for a cancerous tumor. I had a couple of biopsies done on it, both of them came back negative. Problem is, the biopsies have caused a deep indentation on my jaw making it very thin and possibly easily broken. This is why I'm having a problem finding someone to do the procedure. I guess nobody wants to take a chance of something going wrong. Okay, I fully understand but this no teeth stuff is getting real old. I would kill for a pizza or a bowl of cereal!
I'll continue my surgeon search after the holidays are over.
Aside from the medical appointments, I've had some of our former foster puppies here for puppy sitting.
We had Mocha and Bindi here for a couple of weeks. We haven't seen them for a few years and it was good to have them here again.
Bindi is a Chihuahua who almost never barks. Mocha, we affectionately refer to him as "Zombie Dog". He will stand outside like a statue for hours just gazing out into nowhere. When he gets tired of doing this, he turns around and stares into nowhere again. He's a dog with a very sorry past. Rumor is, he was rescued from some terrible people who were using him as a bait dog for their fighting dogs. Some people are so disgusting.
We also had the Lovely Cassidy here again. It's always so good to see her.
She's such a pretty girl, but her age is showing. She's turning gray around her face and she can't jump tall buildings in a single bound anymore.
While here, she spends nearly all of her time staring into the trees for squirrels.
A few weeks after their visit, Osa and Ringo came to spend a week with us.
Osa is a sweetheart who is madly in love with John. She follows him everywhere.
Ringo is a little clown, he's always in a good mood and wanting to spread his good cheer to everyone he sees.
For the past few months, my Carpal Tunnel has been giving me a real problem. My right wrist is hurting so badly and collapses whenever I try to pick something up. I've been wearing my wrist splint for a couple of months and as soon as it feels better, I try to catch up on things which aggravates it all over again.
The reality of things is that I'm a walking train wreck.
Getting old really sucks and I highly recommend for nobody to do it.
Thankfully, I've had most of December free from medical appointments. I pick up where I left off in Mid January beginning with a bone density scan.
The following week, I have an appointment with my Oncologist to see if he has any other torturous tests he wants me to take.
So this is going to be a short update, I don't want to aggravate my eyes and wrist any more than I need to.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!
Make sure you stay safe while ringing in the New Year!
